Woman appears in court after two friends killed in Oldham crash
A woman has denied causing the death of two friends in a crash that saw when their Suzuki dirtbike collided with a Ford Kuga.
Harry Atkinson, 20, and Lewis Meeson, 21, died following the collision on High Barn Street in Royton, Oldham, on April 15, 2022.
Police previously said the pair were both riding on a yellow Suzuki off-road motorbike which was involved in a collision with a grey Ford Kuga car shortly before 11am.
Natalie Read, 40, appeared in court today charged with two counts of causing death by careless driving following the incident.
According to the charges’ specifics, she drove a Ford Kuga “without due care and attention” on High Barn Street on April 15 and “thereby caused the death” of both males.
Ms. Read only spoke to enter her petitions and to confirm her name and birthdate. She formally entered not guilty pleas to both charges.
She will now face trial; the hearing is set to start on May 12 of next year and run for around a week.
Ms. Read, of Luzley Brook Road, Royton, was released on unconditional bail after appearing in court with family members.
The public also included members of Mr. Atkinson’s and Mr. Meeson’s families.
