West Ham reveal trauma concerning Julen Lopetegui update.
Under Julen Lopetegui, West Ham United has had a challenging start to the current Premier League season. Journalist Dean Jones feels the Hammers should fire the Spaniard because they appointed the wrong person.
The Irons, who have only won two of their first seven league games, are currently in 12th place with eight points. Although Lopetegui’s start in terms of table position and points total isn’t particularly bad, many have questioned him because of the way he’s been playing and the rumored altercation with star player Mohammed Kudus.
The summer saw the longtime manager David Moyes at the London Stadium replaced by the former Real Madrid coach, who hasn’t won over the supporters of West Ham yet. Jones has stated that he feels it would be a “waste of time” to continue working with the new boss and that he should be fired.
Jones: Lopetegui should be fired by West Ham
It hasn’t been easy for Lopetegui in his first months as West Ham manager, even though the team easily defeated recently promoted Ipswich Town at the London Stadium. Hammers supporters are still bitter after crushing losses to Aston Villa, Manchester City, Chelsea, and Liverpool in the EFL Cup.
Entrusted with turning the East London club from Moyes’s hardworking style to a possession-based squad, Lopetegui has so far found it difficult to put his own ideas into practice. Despite having substantial financial support in the transfer market—Nick Füllkrug, Max Kilman, and Crysencio Summerville, for example—the former Spain manager has come under fire for his inability to successfully integrate these pricey additions.
“To be quite honest, I’ve heard a good amount of people who aren’t sold on Lopetegui, and it’s clear that there was tension between him and Mohammed Kudus in the locker room during halftime.
We’ll see whether the West Ham board is on the right side of those feelings once we return from our break. There are other layers here that could influence the issue, but emotion also plays a role in how this plays out.
To be honest, I would definitely fire him (Lopetegui). I believe they are mistaken. This man isn’t the right one for them, in my opinion. It seems like a time waster to me. I would fire him.”
