Versatile Swindon Town Playmaker Reportedly Available Ahead of Transfer Deadline

Tariq Uwakwe, a graduate of the Chelsea Academy, played just 11 games for Swindon Town in all competitions in 2023–2024. He was sidelined by injury after October and is reportedly available should a club make a move for him before the transfer window closes on Friday, August 30.

After drawing with Chesterfield on the first day of the League Two season, Swindon Town lost 4-0 at home to Walsall last weekend.

Throughout both of Chelsea’s youth teams’ championship and cup doubles in 2017 and 2018, the 24-year-old was a constant, starting both seasons as a wide right and deep-lying midfielder. Prior to joining Crewe Alexandra in January 2022, Accrington Stanley in League One provided him with his first experience of senior-level play.

The former England under-20 international started out for Crewe as a left-back before establishing himself as a mainstay in League Two in 2022–2023. In 36 games in the fourth division, he had one goal and five assists. That season, he played on the right, left, and in a deeper midfield role, demonstrating his versatility. He made an impression in a central midfield role as well.

He demonstrated his versatility by dominating the club’s charts for critical passes per game and effective crosses, whether playing wide or central. Tariq Uwakwe is a skilled set-piece taker. Despite some areas in which he still has to develop, he might be a great addition for a League Two team that needs a versatile player who can threaten in a variety of situations.

Mark Kennedy became leadership this summer subsequent to the team’s 19th-place result in the 2023–24 campaign. At least five players were released from their contracts during the bustling summer transfer window, which saw 10 permanent arrivals and the same number of permanent exits.

With a projected goal total of just 0.49 during the first two weeks of play, the Robins have produced the lowest total of any League Two team.

Although Uwakwe has a year left on his current contract, it appears that the club and player are ready to move on even though the player may benefit from his creativity. Last season, Uwakwe sustained a long-term injury that kept him out for much of the campaign. Prior to the setback, he was a regular on the left.
