Man dies following fatal collision with van on major road in Harrogate as police issue appeal for witnesses
Police are investigating a fatal collision involving van and cycle in Harrogate, and are appealing for witnesses and dashcam footage.
Firefighters were called to a vehicle that had “crashed through the window of a commercial property” at approximately 12:17 p.m., according to the incident log of the North Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service.
Although the type of vehicle involved has not been established, North Yorkshire Police informed the Stray Ferret today that the incident took place at the Leeds Road Co-op.
By the time firefighters arrived, all of the passengers had left the car, according to the fire report, which also stated that the crew “made the vehicle and scene safe.”
After being transported to Leeds General Infirmary, the cyclist—a sixty-year-old local man—was tragically declared dead.
The van’s driver, a thirtysomething local male, was taken into custody. Since then, he has been freed while our inquiry is ongoing.
For several hours, the road was blocked to enable for forensic collision investigations and emergency services to respond to the scene. We are grateful to the people that came to the scene to help.
According to the police, no one has been charged or detained in relation to the incident, and there have been no reports of injuries.
