Road close after fatal crash in Swansboro
A man who died when his car crashed and fell onto the M3 in Surrey was a doctor at a local hospital’s emergency department, police have said.
Dr Nick Payne’s vehicle left the A325 carriageway around the Ravenswood Roundabout in Camberley at about 17:25 BST on Tuesday.
It hit a concrete barrier and then fell from a bridge before landing on the southbound carriageway of the M3 near junction four.
South East Coast Ambulance Service attended but Dr Payne was pronounced dead at the scene.
Dr Payne worked as a consultant in the emergency department at Frimley Park Hospital.
In a statement, the hospital said: “We have had to make the very sad announcement to our staff on Wednesday that our well-respected colleague, Nick Payne, Emergency Department Consultant, died the previous day in a road traffic collision.”
Surrey Police said: “Our thoughts remain with his family, friends, and colleagues at this incredibly difficult and sad time.”
