With the sixth overall selection in the 2024 NBA Draft, the Charlotte Hornets took a chance on Tidjane Salaun, a long and talented French forward.
By the time Salaun’s 19-year-old tenure in North Carolina ends, he intends to be among the greatest forwards in the Eastern Conference playing for the new Hornets coaching staff led by Charles Lee
Participating in the NBA Summer League this year, Salaun showed a lot of promise in a competitive environment that was cultivated by the presence of several promising young players, including Donovan Clingan and Bronny James of the Lakers.
Regretfully, Hornets supporters must acknowledge that the French forward has yet to demonstrate his superiority over other players in the 2024 Draft class. On the scoring lists, Salaun’s name is next to an unexpected but well-known one: Bronny James.
In the Summer League, Bronny James averaged 8.8 points per game while Salaun scored 9 points per game.
Salaun’s score was low down the list of all Summer League players.
Salaun is worried about a few things going into his rookie NBA season. The teenage forward prospect’s growth will take a long time, so Hornets supporters will need to be patient with him.
When they first join the National Basketball Association, most players who are as inexperienced as Salaun take some time to mature.
Salaun’s Summer League performance suggests that he might follow a similar path with Coach Charles Lee’s Charlotte Hornets. In NBA Summer League action, Salaun’s field goal percentage of 42.3% is respectable but needs to be improved given his height and position. From then on, things deteriorated.
These are the kind of stats that a defensive stopper who can struggle offensively like Ben Wallace would have. It’s clear that Salaun’s defense is inferior to Wallace’s. It is hoped that his shooting % does not get as high as Wallace’s.
It is now Salaun’s responsibility to reach his full potential by going to the gym every day and honing the many shooting techniques that Coach Lee and the Hornets can help him with.
