Thief involved in horror road crash dead
Four years in prison have been imposed on a criminal who stole an off-road vehicle involved in a “horrific” deadly crash, according to the police.
In July 2021, a 17-year-old lad from Stockton-on-Tees and Paul Barnes, 33, both of Yarm, stole the Polaris car from a village close to Northallerton.
They fled along the A19 and collided with a van at a crossroads close to Thimbleby. The teenager died after being flung from the car and struck by an automobile.
Barnes was imprisoned at Teesside Crown Court following his admission of narcotics possession, taking a car without the owner’s permission, and burglary.
According to what the court heard, Barnes, the passenger, was able to escape before the cars crashed.
After Barnes was detained and admitted to the hospital with just minor wounds, the police also found that he was in possession of a sizable quantity of class-C opioid medications.
He received a four-year prison sentence and a minimum 37-month driving ban.
It was described as a “horrific incident” by Sgt Marie Williams of the Major Collision Investigation Team of North Yorkshire Police.
This kind of study yields no winners. However, it’s appropriate that Barnes has been found guilty and given a sentence by the courts today,” the woman stated.
