Swindon Town secure loan of midfielder from Swansea City

Swindon Town have announced the loan signing of midfielder Joel Cotterill from Championship club Swansea City.

The 19-year-old midfielder Cotterill has joined Swindon Town after a brief but significant loan with League Two Champions Stockport County the previous campaign.

He scored his first senior goal in an 8-0 victory over Sutton while he was a member of Stockport.

Cotterill, who joined Swansea City in 2011, made his senior debut in an EFL Cup game against Oxford United in 2022.

“Joining a club with so much history is fantastic for me,” Cotterill said. “I’ve had my first taste of senior football last season and it may not have gone the way I wanted but I’m excited to be here and I can’t wait to meet the fans.”

Jamie Russell, Head of Football at Swindon Town, expressed his excitement at Cotterill’s coming. “In our preseason program, we recently played Swansea, and Joel’s maturity and technical skill really showed.” He is a versatile midfielder who can play in a number of central positions. We are grateful that Joel was able to join us on loan this season from Swansea.”

Joel Cotterill, a midfielder for Swansea City, has signed a loan deal with Swindon Town for the 2024–25 campaign, pending international clearance.

From the age of seven, Cotterill has been a member of the Swans. In June 2022, he signed his first professional contract. Since then, he has extended the terms until June 2026.

In August 2022, Cotterill made his senior debut for the team as he entered the Carabao Cup match against Oxford United as a replacement.

At the conclusion of that season, he was voted academy player of the year. The previous season, he spent a stint on loan with Stockport County.

Joel is well-wished for during his loan stay by many at Swansea City.
