Swansboro man died and two fighting for life after car crashes into fast food restaurant

Swansboro police investigating after Emerald Isle assistant fire chief found shot

Following Emerald Isle Assistant Fire officer Thursday morning gunshot wound to the chest, the Swansboro Police Department is conducting an investigation.

Swansboro Police Chief Dwayne Taylor said Thursday that Swansboro Police, Swansboro Fire, and Onslow County EMS arrived at a residence on Mount Pleasant Road in Swansboro at around 10:10 a.m. on Thursday in reference to a victim who had been shot.

A neighbour discovered Askew, 63, in his yard and dialled 911. He was taken to Naval Regional Medical Centre Camp LeJeune while still cognisant but unconscious. Askew was transported to New Hanover Regional Hospital after being stabilised; he was sedated but stable.

Swansboro Police Department detectives are still investigating. There is no evidence of foul play, and the public is not in any danger.
