Sunderland, Burnley and Ipswich Town facing intense battle for Celtic striker amid new development
The Scottish champions hold the 18-year-old in high regard, but his contract expires in the summer, raising questions over his future.
Numerous clubs have taken notice of that; according to recent reports, scouts from Burnley, Sunderland, Ipswich, and Wolves were among those who sent representatives to monitor the striker.
However, it appears they won’t have a free run at the player, as Sky Sports reporter Anthony Joseph revealed that Cummings’ form has prompted interest from clubs on the continent, whilst he also stated that Celtic are yet to offer fresh terms to the player.
Celtic attacker Daniel Cummings has drawn interest from Bologna, Club Brugge, and RB Salzburg, all of whom have dispatched scouts to keep a close eye on him. Premier League (PLC) teams are also keeping an eye on the 18-year-old.
“Cummings’ contract expires at the end of the current campaign, and Celtic has not yet extended an offer to him.”
The youngster continued his impressive form in the UEFA Youth League on Tuesday as he scored in Celtic’s 2-1 defeat to Dinamo Zagreb. That was his sixth effort in the competition, which means he is the third top scorer after six games.
You get the idea that Celtic isn’t sure they’ll be able to keep the player because they haven’t offered him a new contract yet, even though they should have done so by now.
It’s not surprising that Cummings is drawing interest from other teams given his goal-scoring ability, especially in Europe. If any club can entice him to leave Celtic, this might prove to be a wise business move.
Of course, his contract situation means that he has freedom to decide his next move, even if the Glasgow giants would be entitled to compensation.
The player will no doubt assess his options, and he will surely prioritise a club that will give him a pathway to the first-team, which is something that Burnley and Sunderland will no doubt be pushing.
At 18, he is now reaching the stage where he will want to be playing in the professional game, as he looks to start delivering on his undoubted potential.
There is a genuine possibility that one or both of them may be Premier League clubs the next season since the Black Cats, in particular, have demonstrated that they are prepared to give younger players a chance.
