Sheffield Wednesday boss Danny Rohl, is now being considered by Hamburg, a managerless 2. Bundesliga giant
The Owls are currently in ninth place in the Championship, five points outside of the play-off spots. Danny Rohl, their well-liked manager, is largely responsible for their success.
The German has played a crucial role since taking over last season, leading the team to a stunning survival campaign that has kept them in the Championship. As expected, Rohl’s outstanding work has drawn notice, and he has been connected to Southampton’s open managerial post after Russell Martin was fired.
But a new club has entered the fray. German newspaper Kicker claims that Hamburg is interested in the Sheffield Wednesday manager.
They state that Rohl is highly regarded in Germany after his work with some big clubs and the national team, putting him in the frame for the job at Hamburg.
The second-tier side have been without a head coach since the end of November.
Sheffield Wednesday and Hamburg are two clubs in comparable circumstances. Both of these large teams, with sizable fan following, are mired in the second division.
The German club are six-time Bundesliga champions but are now in their seventh consecutive season in 2. Bundesliga. They, like Wednesday, are currently mid-table but are just three points off top spot in a very close league.
They believe Rohl has what it takes to lead them back to the top division. It’s unclear, though, if he would approve of the change at this point.
This weekend, Sheffield Wednesday will aim to win two straight games. Stoke City, who are currently in terrible form, will be hosted by the Owls in Hillsborough.
As they consider the prospect of pushing their way into the play-off battle, supporters will be hoping that Rohl remains in control of the game and for the foreseeable future.
On Boxing Day, they travel to Middlesbrough, where Rohl’s future and the open management positions he is being connected to should be more clear.
