Sheffield Wednesday are losing the race for Stockport County Man as ‘frontrunners’ emerge in Championship battle
With 19 games played so far in the Championship season, Sheffield Wednesday has settled into a groove and is currently in ninth place.
Despite leading his team to a four-game winning streak recently, Sheffield Wednesday manager Danny Rohl was dissatisfied with his squad’s attitude during the 1-1 draw with Preston North End over the weekend.
Sheffield Wednesday supporters are eager for the team to sign Louie Barry on loan in January in order to advance the team, but they might be let down.
Following Barry’s successful debut in League One, it appears that the possibility of Aston Villa bringing up the forward from his time with Stockport County is currently being “discussed.”
Middlesbrough appears to be the 21-year-old’s most likely destination now that Darren Witcoop stated on Twitter/X that the North East team is in the lead for Louie Barry.
Witcoop wrote: “Louie Barry will be leaving Stockport in January to play in the Championship. With Middlesbrough as the front-runner for the forward, Aston Villa is choosing the correct team.
This new information will undoubtedly hurt Rohl’s efforts to strengthen his team, as Wednesday has already been advised to seek elsewhere rather than putting all of their money into Barry.
Sheffield Wednesday will only make loan deals this time around because the Owls have little to no budget in January.
Of course, that doesn’t mean the race is over just yet. Although Sheffield Wednesday can still realistically aim for Louie Barry in January, they will also need to consider alternative options.
Sheffield Wednesday has a number of Premier League players available for loan in the upcoming year, and Jayden Danns of Liverpool is one of their targets.
The teen is a large, powerful forward with excellent technical skill, a keen sense of direction, and a fantastic engine. He has been sidelined for some time due to an injury, and he will be seeking regular playing time in order to return as quickly as possible.
Whether Wednesday gamble on Danns, push on for Barry, or sign someone completely different remains to be seen, but one thing is clear: if the Owls are to make a play for promotion this year, they need extra firepower.
