Sheffield United sign new goalkeeper to a four-year deal
The Blades have been after Michael Cooper for a few weeks, and they can now officially announce that they have signed him to a four-year contract. Sheffield United has finally secured a new goalkeeper.
Cooper, 24, traveled to Sheffield last weekend to witness Sheffield Wednesday, his current Steel City rivals, defeat his former team, Plymouth Argyle, 4-0. Following that match, he headed down to Plymouth before eventually returning north to watch the Blades defeat Wrexham in the Carabao Cup at Bramall Lane and to finalize his transfer to the team.
Cooper said, “It feels brilliant that we’ve got the move over the line, and I’m excited to get started,” in his first interview with SUTV.
The club, the supporters, the goal, and the team were all extremely appealing to me, and the manager could not say enough good things about them. I have many wonderful memories from my time at Argyle, but when an opportunity like Sheffield United comes around, it is difficult to turn it down. This is a massive opportunity.
Nobody has been in the dark about Chris Wilder’s desire to add a top-tier goalkeeper to United this summer—someone who the team can potentially rely on for the long run—and he is thrilled to be adding yet another big name to his roster.
Michael was eager to join and has been one of our main targets, which is why we have stuck with this contract.
“Although he is only 24 years old, he has played in more than 150 games, so experience counts as well.” His part in moving Plymouth into this tier shows that he is a winner, and he now has championship experience under his belt.
“I would want to express my gratitude to the people listed above who approved and sponsored this agreement. He said on the team’s official website, “I know the window is still open, but I think everyone can see now that our patience has paid off with the quality of the individuals we have brought to the football club.”
When the Blades host Queens Park Rangers this Saturday afternoon for their first home game back in the Championship, Cooper might get the chance to make his debut. In addition, United will be hoping that Jesurun Rak-Sakyi, who is about to complete his loan swap to Sheffield United—his second loan move of his career—would be available for that matchup with the talented Crystal Palace winger.
