Queso Frito – Mexican Fried Cheese Recipe

If you love Mexican dishes then this is one I recommend you don’t miss, having both the blend of culture and sweetness you’ll definitely love it!

Queso frito, or fried cheese in English, is one of the most common and well-known dishes of Mexican cuisine. It can be served as an appetizer, snack, or as a side dish alongside more traditional fare like tacos or tortas. The simplicity of this dish makes it ideal to make at home; itโ€™s easily customizable to taste preferences, and the cooking process does not require any special equipment or skills beyond being able to fry an egg! Check out these instructions on how to make queso frito at home!

Queso frito is also called Queso Relleno in other parts of Mexico, and itโ€™s one of my favorite appetizers to eat, especially when Iโ€™m out with friends at a Mexican restaurant. Donโ€™t let the word fried fool you โ€“ this dish isnโ€™t like greasy, deep-fried Tex-Mex nachos covered in cheese sauce! Queso frito has just enough moisture from the peppers and chiles, but still melts in your mouth and warms your belly when you eat it.

What is Queso frito?

Queso frito (which literally means fried cheese) is a savory, melted cheese dish thatโ€™s the Mexican equivalent of fondue and can be served as either an appetizer or an entreฬe. Itโ€™s made by heating cheese and other ingredients in oil over medium-high heat until it begins to melt and bubble. Itโ€™s one of my favorite Mexican dishes.

A cheese dish that has been fried in oil is known as queso frito. After being dipped in a batter and fried, queso frito can be pan-fried or deep-fried. It works well as a snack or an appetizer. In Cyprus, Greece, Lebanon, Syria, and Turkey, queso frito is a favorite morning dish, as well as in Mexico, Brazil, and the Dominican Republic.

In Spain, fried cheese balls are known as delicias de queso, and queso frito is served as a tapas dish. It’s usually eaten with arepa and hot chocolate for breakfast in Colombia, or as a midday snack with coffee in the afternoon. In Italian cooking, frito queso is also a common component.

Typically, queso frito is served right after it has been fried. It can be topped with a vinaigrette or served with a dipping sauce.

Because a good cheese will keep its shape when deep fried, we’ve given a simple method to assist you in having a successful experience.

If the first slice melts instead of frying to a golden brown, dust the remaining slices with corn starch and shake off the excess. You can skip this step if it fries without a hitch.

It’s entirely up to you how long you fry the cheese for. Some individuals prefer it to be light golden in color and lightly “melted,” while others prefer it to be crisper and darker. Make your choice depending on your own unique tastes.

Mang is commonly served with our Queso Frito. Serve plain or with MayoKetchup (homemade or store-bought). Another popular topping for Queso Frito is guava sauce, but I find it to be too sweet for my tastes.

Dredging the cheese in corn starch before boiling or dredging it in beaten eggs and breadcrumbs are two other Queso frito methods.

  1. Small pieces of cheese should be used. Pat the cheese dry with a paper towel to avoid splatters.
  2. In a nonstick skillet over medium-high heat, cook the cheese on one side until golden brown (try one slice first to see if it fries nicely; if it doesn’t, read the notes).
  3. Turn around and repeat the process.
  4. Drain the cheese on paper towels for a few seconds after removing it with a slotted spoon.
  5. Because the oil must remain very hot to prevent the cheese from remaining in the oil for an extended period of time, do not add several slices at once.
  6. Serve right away.
