Police launch Operation Tornado which leads to sixteen arrests

A large-scale operation that involved high-visibility community patrols and targeted police deployments has led to a number of arrests across the Harrogate district today.

Six of the suspects were detained in relation to burglaries, and further suspects were detained on suspicion of narcotics offenses, serious bodily harm, and other offenses.

Additionally, six wanted individuals have been found and placed under arrest.

Additionally, cops have been actively patrolling the districts’ communities, interacting with locals, offering tips on how to prevent crimes, and securing people’s belongings.

It’s a part of Operation Tornado, a day of intensification program that focuses resources on different parts of North Yorkshire on different days in an effort to disrupt crime and help local communities.

Tim Forber, the incoming Chief Constable of North Yorkshire Police, who was present for today’s operation, launched Operation Tornado.

Similar action-packed days have previously occurred in the districts of York, Scarborough, and Ryedale.

“Today’s operation has a wide range but its purpose is straightforward – to prevent crime and proactively target those who commit it,” stated Chief Inspector Simon Williamson, whose command area includes the Harrogate district.

In particular, violent crime, drugs, shoplifting, and burglary are offenses for which our communities reasonably expect us to take harsh measures.

Even though we deal with these issues year-round, today’s arrests demonstrate how forcefully we combat crime in North Yorkshire, particularly when we concentrate a large amount of resources on a small location.

In addition, a large number of police have been on the beat and engaged in face-to-face crime prevention work since it is imperative that we maintain our close collaboration with the district’s businesses, residents, and other organizations.

“North Yorkshire is formally one of the safest counties in England, and the Harrogate district is already a very safe place.

“We can make sure it stays that way by cooperating and utilizing police resources strategically in this way.”
