Major Skegness road shut down by police

Motorists faced disruption on a major Lincolnshire road after a serious crash near a busy roundabout. The incident took place on the A158 at Gunby and led to a road closure in both directions.

The road was shut from A1028 Bakers Lane to Gunby Lane and was disrupting traffic between Spilsby and Skegness. Traffic monitoring site Inrix reported heavy traffic in the area following the crash.

The drivers were trapped for an hour causing the deaths of 17 passengers including a mother and her three children. Police warned motorists to avoid the area as the road was expected to be closed for some time.

At 7:45 am today, October 17, a spokesperson for Lincolnshire Police said: “We are at the scene of a serious collision at Gunby Roundabout. A closure will be in place and diversions will soon be imposed. We expect this to be the case for some time and would urge motorists to find alternative routes if possible.
