Paul Heckingbottom- I thought QPR were fantastic, but the referee helped them out massively with that one
The Lilywhites took the lead after twenty-one minutes when Milutin Osmajic took advantage of a nasty injury to Steve Cook, which created space for the PNE striker to run into and score.
However, QPR equalized five minutes into the second half and took all three points at the end. Heckingbottom acknowledged that his team wasn’t up to par that day, but that dismissing his number six didn’t help them.
We would have been celebrating a draw, to put it simply,” Heckingbottom added. Despite the authorities’ assistance throughout the game, I believed QPR to be the superior team.
Although I believe they deserved the victory, it would have been a significant point for us. It’s not a farewell. We had all of our attacking players on the field, so it has completely destroyed us.
Many of our players are out of position, and we have players on who are uncomfortable defending the box.
That was a huge issue for us, then. QPR was excellent. They were tough, bodies around the ball, and they competed against us really, really well.
They were excellent, in my opinion, but the referee greatly aided them in that particular match.
Morgan skillfully sliced it back inside, but into our player, incidentally. Liam, there is nothing he can do unless he becomes invisible.
Because their player lost the ball, he was sent off. There is nothing he can do. He is immobile.
“Liam was sent off after Morgan cut inside and kicked the ball to Jordan (Storey).”
I’ve talked about us trying to score points and making sure that, as a team, we can score points even when we’re not playing well. That kind of performance would have taken place now.
There was a work rate. When we did get in, there wasn’t much quality since we were fighting and scrapping. Therefore, we didn’t produce enough. That moment truly, truly pained us as we were fighting to make sure we gained something from the game.
Heckingbottom went on to say of the goals let up: “Robbie (Brady) has gambled on the corner.”
We switched at halftime because, in my opinion, one of our issues was that Liam would instantly touch back on his right if it came down our left to Kaine (Kesler-Hayden).
Every time, we ended up back at Freddie (Woodman) because they were setting to press that.
We wanted Robbie on to receive and pass and him or Liam to be able to pass forward, all the time. Ironically, that decision cost us today.
Their first goal came down that side – miscommunication – and then the second goal. So yeah, our subs have been very good. Today, we didn’t get them right.
I thought Duane (Holmes) was alright but apart from that… because we were not playing well, we made subs to try and change it.”
