Nottingham Forest storm in on Crystal Palace January transfer pans for ‘brilliant’ Millwall winger
The Eagles may now have to contend with competition from top division rivals Nottingham Forest, despite Crystal Palace being the clear favorite to finalize a deal to bring the gifted Millwall winger to the Premier League.
As to a recent report by The Telegraph, Forest has’regularly watched’ Esse at Millwall and is considering a transfer to compete with Crystal Palace. Esse is considered a “long-term” target for Nottingham Forest, who are presently in fourth position in the Premier League and are having a fantastic season.
Nuno Espirito Santo’s work and the potential of European football could see the club backed financially come January, which could spell trouble for Crystal Palace’s hopes of recruiting Esse.
It had been touted that the 19-year-old could be the next talent to follow in the footsteps of Eberechi Eze, Michael Olise and Adam Wharton in moving from the EFL to the top flight at Selhurst Park.
Esse is already a vital member of the Lions’ squad despite his young age. This season, the winger, who plays for the England under-20 team, has made 21 appearances and scored four goals.
However, the January window comes at a precarious time for Millwall with Neil Harris having just quit his head coach role in a bombshell move and a search for a new manager underway.
With those rumors well in the past and the ability to give the player a quick transfer across South London, Crystal Palace will still be optimistic in landing Esse.
The club may sell striker Odsonne Edouard in January to pay for additional transfers, according to a report published last week by LondonWorld. Esse would return to The Den to finish the current Championship season with Millwall under the terms of a buy-to-loan agreement that has been discussed.
Harris had been open about the Premier League’s interest in the youngster earlier this season. “I don’t worry about Romain’s mentality—he’s a brilliant young man,” he stated. He has had a nice upbringing at home and has received solid instruction here.
Romain is a football enthusiast. We like the fact that he enjoys winning and wants to be on the field.
With Romain being a 19-year-old playing in the Championship, Gary [Rowett] is correct in saying that there will be a lot of interest. Romain’s goal, as he has been made clear, must be to stay with the team.
“That is his top priority; everything else in football will follow.” You will never advance in the Championship if you don’t play consistently from the beginning. Romain has a lot of promise.
He is a really talented and grounded boy. This year, he has already improved his final output. Romain will undoubtedly make an appearance in the Premier League at some point if he continues to accomplish that.
