North Yorkshire Police 'gobsmacked' after car left wrapped around tree in Harrogate

A police officer said he was “gobsmacked” that no-one was killed in a dramatic crash that left a car wrapped around a tree.

After the crash in Harrogate, North Yorkshire Police Sergeant Paul Cording posted a photo of the Vauxhall vehicle.

Despite their severe injuries, the two occupants of the automobile were able to escape the debris. Their health poses no threat to their life.

According to Sgt Cording, a road policing officer: “It still amazes me that we didn’t make the long walk to someone’s house for ‘that knock’ last night.

“The intrusion [of the tree] is unbelievable and testament to the advancement in vehicle safety and another reason we bang on all the time about wearing seatbelts.”

After the automobile was taken out of the tree, he tweeted another photo of it and thanked “everyone who helped at the scene.” Investigations into what transpired are still ongoing.

The force started its “fatal five” campaign in November of last year with the goal of lowering the quantity of significant collisions on the county’s roadways.

It identified five factors—driving while intoxicated or under the influence of drugs, failing to buckle up, speeding, and distracted driving, including using a cell phone—that account for the majority of fatal collisions.

The effort came after five months and twenty fatal crashes in North Yorkshire.

At that moment, Supervisor Emma Aldred declared: “Human error accounts for over 90% of the collisions we handle.” We’re working hard to stop people from ever making those bad choices in the first place.”
