New England Revolution acquire Leo Campana from Inter Miami in record-setting GAM trade

This winter, MLS disclosed the allocation funds available to each club’s front office; as is the case each year, some clubs had significantly more to deal with than others.

Of the 30 MLS teams on the list, the New England Revolution had the third-highest GAM and wasted no time in sharing it widely.

Leo Campana, a forward for Inter Miami, was acquired by the Revs for a record-breaking $2.5 million in GAM, however other rumors indicate the price may potentially reach a staggering $3.25 million.

The agreement includes foreign roster spots for 2025 and 2026 as well as a sell-on percentage for those years.

Despite being one of the few old guard stars to remain in his position when Lionel Messi and his Barcelona teammates moved to South Florida, Campana was well-suited to the Barça Boys club and MLS’ favorite son.

Naturally, Inter Miami has a lot of opportunities to add one more complementary player for Messi and company, if not two or three.

Atlanta United, who also happen to have the most GAM available as of the league’s most recent tally on December 10, defeated Inter Miami in the first round of the MLS Cup playoffs despite an MLS Supporters’ Shield-winning regular season that set records.

As general manager Jason Hernandez attempts to retool the roster that John Herdman inherited last season in preparation for an unidentified replacement, Toronto FC has a respectable amount of GAM available.

TFC has $3,318,648 in GAM to make some moves thanks to the recently fired under-performers who helped increase cap flexibility.

Allocation money has traditionally rewarded creative teams, and with all the cards on the table, we’re already seeing some interesting plays.

Late Thursday evening, it was reported that Atlanta United was negotiating a $300,000 GAM deal for Mateusz Klich, a former Leeds United midfielder under Jesse Marsch, from D.C. United, in addition to the No. 23 MLS SuperDraft choice.

The innovative aspect is that, while Klich won’t hold a DP place in Atlanta, his exit also doesn’t open up a DP spot in Washington, D.C.

In exchange for center midfielder Sean Davis, Greg Vanney’s MLS Cup-winning LA Galaxy sent out MLS Cup MVP Gastón Brugman, along with up to $100,000 in GAM, to Nashville.
