Motorcyclist killed in crash on bend as police close Wiltshire route
When authorities close the Wiltshire highway, a motorcyclist has died in a collision that happened at a bend.
Just before 3:30 p.m. on Sunday, there was a collision on the B4696 Ashton Road, close to Ashton Keynes, which prompted the need for emergency services.
A motorcycle was the only vehicle involved in the event. First responders who weren’t on duty arrived at the scene first and administered first aid after the car veered off the road and into the underbrush.
Along with the police, fire coresponders from Cricklade, and local ambulance crews, critical care medics from the Great Western Air Ambulance Charity also attended.
In spite of their greatest attempts, the Chiseldon resident, 68, who was riding the bike, was declared dead at the site.
Sgt Will Ayres, an officer with the roads police section, commended the off-duty firefighters for their “brilliant job” in providing initial medical care.
In Ashton Keynes, the road that runs between High Road and the B4040 Malmesbury Road is closed in both directions. Swan Lane is also not a means of accessing the route.
It is anticipated that a forensic collision investigation will commence soon, and the closure will probably last until early tomorrow morning (Monday, August 26).
Please call 01225 694597 and reference log 176 of August 25 to reach the Serious Collision Investigation Team if you are a witness or have any information or dashcam footage. Alternatively, send a direct email to SCIT@wiltshire.police.uk to reach the team.
