manager acknowledges Brentford are a selling club as he speaks on future of star man
Brentford boss Thomas Frank has said he would be “over the moon” if striker Ivan Toney remains at the club this summer
With one year remaining on his current contract with the Bees, Toney has been linked to a move away from the team. While nothing concrete has materialized, reports suggest that Tottenham and Manchester United are among the interested parties. The 28-year-old was a member of the England squad that advanced to the Euro 2024 final, where he made an impact by setting up Harry Kane’s winning goal in the last 16 match against Slovakia and scoring in the Three Lions’ penalty shootout victory over Switzerland.
Although Toney has stated that he wants to play for a premier league team, no bids have been made for the England international, who is reportedly valued at around £50 million.
After serving an eight-month suspension, the striker returned to action in January, but during the second half of the season, he only managed four goals in 17 appearances.
Given that Brentford faces the possibility of losing Toney to free agency at the end of the following campaign, it would be prudent for them to let him go this summer.
Speaking about the striker, Frank expressed that he would be “over the moon” if the Englishman stayed with the team.
Frank told Sky Sports News, “What I’m focusing on is that Ivan is a Brentford player. I’m very happy he’s here, and if Ivan is here at the start of the season, I’ll be over the moon.”
“We’re a selling club, as I’ve stated before, but Ivan is a player for us,”
Only Harry Kane and Erling Haaland scored more goals in the Premier League than Toney did in 2022–2023, demonstrating his durability despite his setbacks the previous season.
The longer the window remains open, the more likely it is that a club will be able to obtain a terrific deal for Toney. Oddly, though, no real suitors have emerged to try and sign him; this could change as the season and the window’s closure approach closer.
