Man suspected of killing one of UK's richest men

A 34-year-old was arrested in west London – 100 miles from where millionaire hotelier Sir Richard Sutton was stabbed in Dorset.

According to an eyewitness who spoke to Sky News, armed officers “forcibly stopped” the car of a man who is accused of killing one of the richest men in Britain.

The 34-year-old was taken into custody in west London, which is over 100 miles away from the Dorset property of millionaire hotelier Sir Richard Sutton, who was fatally stabbed.

Six police departments tracked down a car that was thought to be connected to the event after conducting “fast-time enquiries” and tracking it down.

Maureen Kane told Sky News she heard an accident and saw armed cops pull a man out of a car. Maureen Kane’s Chiswick home overlooks the road where police caught the suspect late on Wednesday night.

“I observed around twenty police cars swerving to get in the way of this car when I peered out the window. The cops were surrounded by what appeared to be machine guns aimed at the car.

“At first, I assumed it was a scene from a movie…

It was really loud and chaotic, with lots of shouting and flashing lights.

“All the police did was yell at him, ‘What’s your name?'” “What is your name?”

She went on to say that the man was “covered in blood” when the police dragged him out of the car.

“He was placed on a stretcher and given a silver blanket by the cops.

“Then an air ambulance arrived, and the paramedics started treating him – they treated him for about 30 minutes before taking him away.”

The man was then brought to a hospital for treatment of injuries that were not thought to be life-threatening, according to Dorset Police.

In Higher Langham, close to Gillingham, there had been an attack on Sir Richard and a woman who had been reported to be his wife.

A short while later, the 83-year-old was pronounced dead, and the 60-year-old lady was taken to Southmead Hospital in Bristol in critical condition.

Detectives said that there was a personal relationship between the victims and the accused suspect.

“Sir Richard was a caring, generous, and warm family man who genuinely regarded those who worked for him as part of his extended family,” said a statement from Sir Richard’s employer.

“Sir Richard set the highest standards for excellence in the hotel, farming, and real estate industries within the group. He was deeply committed to his firm and its employees.

Everyone at the company, those who collaborated with him, and his family—who have lost a remarkable person—will be saddened by his passing. At this sad occasion, our thoughts are with the Sutton family.”

With an estimated net worth of £301 million, Sir Richard ranks 435th in the nation’s wealthiest people, according to The Sunday Times.

On Park Lane in London, he was the owner of the five-star Sheraton Grand and Athenaeum hotels.

The 6,500-acre Benham Estate in West Berkshire and the Stainton Estate in Lincolnshire were among the entrepreneur’s many properties and farming holdings.

What transpired is being investigated by the Major Crime Investigation Team of Dorset Police.

The investigation’s lead detective, Detective Inspector Simon Huxter, stated: “At this very trying time, our thoughts are with the family of the man who sadly passed away and the injured woman, who are receiving support from specially trained officers.”

“We will be carrying out a full investigation to establish exactly what happened at the address in Higher Langham, and I would appeal to anyone who saw or heard anything suspicious in the area on the evening of 7 April to please contact us.”
