Luke Williams reveals how many players Swansea City plan to sign in January transfer window
The Swans manager recently disclosed that the team has already identified possible new hires before January and that some possible deals are already in the works, though as of this writing, they don’t seem to be close to making an early breakthrough.
According to Luke Williams, Swansea City is making solid strides in their attempts to bolster the team, but it is unlikely that they will make many acquisitions when the transfer window reopens.
The club’s recruitment team is working hard to make sure the team is prepared to race out of the traps come January 1, but Williams says he’s happy with the efforts made thus far.
“We are [advancing].” We had a lengthy meeting regarding everything related to recruitment, so we left here pretty late yesterday night. We’re in a good spot, but there’s a lot to it. So when the window opens, we’re prepared to attack.
However, it makes no guarantees. There is always a third party with a separate set of issues, so just because we are prepared and in a good spot doesn’t mean anything.
Williams claims the team does have specific individuals in mind, but he is not aware of any potential interest in Falkirk right-back Keelan Adams.
“We’re talking to clubs and agents of players,” he stated. “So, we’ve made great progress in our preparedness. We still need to wait for the other parties to be in the right spot and be prepared to commit, so I don’t want to give the false idea that everything is signed and we’re just awaiting the official window.”
This winter, money will probably be scarce again despite the recent takeover and the £20 million cash infusion that followed.
Williams feels a large-scale transfer activity is unlikely, but he is still optimistic the team can complete some transactions.
Since I don’t think this is the time to tear everything down and hire a completely new crew, I would suggest that one to three would be realistic for what we’re going to do.
“I think so many of the players have come on in their performances and started to find their feet in the Championship, and we have to make sure that we give them the room to continue to grow because we could very well have some top Championship players on our hands if we do that correctly.”
Williams says he briefly discussed the upcoming window with members of the new ownership group, whom he met last weekend.
Williams met Keith English, who is believed to have joined the club as a minority investor, in addition to Brett Cravatt and Jason Cohen.
He remarked, “It was good to meet them,” “A lot of vitality. Very clever guys who have achieved great success.
“I had previously met Brett, but this was my first encounter with Jason and Keith, and it went really well.
As I mentioned before, there was a lot of enthusiasm and energy surrounding the club, and we got the opportunity to sit down and talk further.
That’s a good thing, then. to encounter individuals who appear to be truly involved and successful individuals who understand the difficulties that come with achievement.
“That’s a great thing for us to have.”
The Swans manager continued, when asked directly if January was discussed, “Not in that much detail. The hiring staff has been working tirelessly, and we must encourage them.
“Of course we’ll be including them in that process as we get closer to signing players for them to feel really excited about that.”
