Hull FC target Salford Red Devils talent as transfer plans take step forward
According to reports, the Black and Whites have identified the outside defender as a player of interest due to Salford Red Devils’ persistent financial difficulties, and Hull FC is interested in signing their quality.
Following their request for a £500,000 advance of their central budget to ensure their short-term financial stability, Hull, like many other clubs, has been monitoring events at Salford.
Following receipt of it, Salford has now been informed that in order to ensure long-term sustainability, they will need to make considerable spending reductions of about 40%.
There won’t be any progress before the year’s end while talks with the club continue, and that process, which involves the Rugby Football League, is scheduled to continue through the holiday season. Salford is still optimistic about obtaining funding that would improve its standing.
However, a number of clubs are ready to make their move and among them is Hull, who have identified Cross as a player they would like to take off Salford’s hands.
The 28-year-old has established himself as a consistent Super League performer during three seasons with the Reds, scoring 30 tries in 86 games.
Before gaining a spot in the Super League with Salford in 2022, Cross, who can play wing or center, made his professional debut for Rochdale and played in the lower leagues with Barrow Raiders and Widnes Vikings.
Under Paul Rowley, he has been a consistent player, missing only two games in three seasons.
With injuries frequently wrecking havoc in recent years, that is one of the characteristics that has made him a transfer target for the team.
In an attempt to address that problem, the club has made significant investments in its medical and fitness department; however, the Black and Whites have inquired about the availability of a player who has a track record of avoiding injuries and who has consistently performed.
