Gustavo Hamer a wanted man but Coventry City old boy playing it cool amid Premier League interest

The news regarding the future of old boy Gustavo Hamer, who Coventry City sold to Sheffield United for £15 million the summer before last, has surfaced from Bramall Lane.

The player has been one of the Championship’s top players this season, drawing Premier League attention ahead of the winter transfer window. Ipswich Town is the team mentioned as having a particular interest in the Blades’ current player of the season, but a deal seems unlikely.

The Blades’ current player of the season has been linked to Ipswich Town, but a trade seems improbable.

They report: “Hamer was a shining light in Sheffield United’s gloomy relegation season last term and the club is on course to bounce back at the first attempt.

“United are desperate for the 27-year-old to stay and will snub all offers for their key man.

But it seems Hamer is in no hurry to return to the top division in January either and wants to achieve that ambition at Bramall Lane.”

Although it’s unclear if a sell-on provision was part of the agreement to transfer Hamer to United, it wouldn’t likely bring in much money because it would just be a proportion of any profit the Blades gained from the initial £15 million cost.

Callum O’Hare, Hamer’s Coventry teammate who signed with the Blades as a free agent in the summer, will be especially happy to hear the news.

Since then, he has played alongside Hamer in 19 games for his new team.
