Former Scunthorpe United & Coventry City Man Targeted by Championship Club
Following the unexpected news that Neil Harris is stepping down from being the Millwall manager after Millwall’s trip to Middlesbrough on Saturday.
The next question was who would replace Harris? Well, there seems to be an early contender from the ranks of the already-sacked managers. Would this be a move that could change the outlook of Millwall’s season?
With the announcement by both Neil Harris and Millwall that Harris was stepping down, there was an air of uncertainty around the club. It was not like Millwall was having a bad season.
Currently, Millwall sits at thirteenth in the Championship with solid wins over the likes of Leeds United and Burnley. Millwall are only six points off the playoff places and have only lost once in their last ten matches. However, after calling the Millwall fans “thickos” following Millwall’s loss to Coventry City over the weekend, it is felt that that is the reason Harris stepped down.
Now that Harris will be gone after this weekend, who replaces him? Recent reporting says that Millwall thinks Mark Robins is the man for the job. According to these reports, Millwall are expected to talk to the recently sacked Coventry City manager after Neil Harris ends his time at Millwall on Saturday.
Robins would surely bring a treasure trove of experience to The Den. Robins guided Coventry City to the Championship and was only a penalty shootout away from securing promotion to the Premier League not two years ago.
Just last year, Robins’ Coventry City side lost to Manchester United in the FA Cup semifinals on penalties. There was much optimism around Robins and Coventry City coming into this season, but a disappointing start to the season saw Robins sacked last month.
Bringing in the high quality manager that is Mark Robins signals what kind of ambitions Millwall must have. Considering how Millwall’s season has started, it would not be shocking if the club thinks Mark Robins might be able to take the club to the next level.
Robins definitely has the pedigree to take a club like Millwall, which feels very much within touching distance of the playoffs, to heights not seen at the club in quite some time. It would be quite the redemption arc not just for Mark Robins, but Millwall as well if those dreams are realized.
