Exclusive: Swansea City and Preston North End weighing up moves for Wolves midfielder

The 22-year-old midfielder, who spent the 2022–2023 season on loan at Swansea City, is well-known to the team’s supporters.

It was undoubtedly the most productive period of his professional career to date.

The midfielder returned to Wolves after more Championship loan stints with Plymouth Argyle and Stoke City last season, although he has battled for playing time and has not made a senior appearance in the 2024–2025 season.

Sources claim that a number of EFL teams are considering loan and permanent deals for the 22-year-old, including Championship teams Swansea and Preston.

EFL teams are eager to capture Cundle when the January transfer window opens, following a challenging season at Molineux in which he failed to establish himself in the first squad.

After making 34 appearances for Russell Martin’s team in the 2022–2023 season, when he scored three goals and provided four assists, the 22-year-old established himself at the Championship level and gained popularity at Swansea.com Stadium.

Cundle, who played 40 games overall during stints at Plymouth Argyle and Stoke last season, had another season of Championship action under his belt. After a return to Stoke fell through, he was retained at Wolves in the summer with the possibility of playing in the first team.

Regular football hasn’t materialized, though, and clubs in the EFL are eager to make a move in January after just making the Premier League matchday squad once this season with Wolves.

Cundle is a desirable addition for Championship clubs due to his age and prior divisional performances; Swansea and Preston are two teams considering moves for him before the January transfer window opens.

It appears unlikely that Cundle will feature frequently for a Wolves team in a relegation fight, so a January departure—whether on loan or permanently—makes sense.

While some teams could prefer a loan agreement before reevaluating the situation in the summer, Wolves might be willing to move him as he enters the last year of his contract at Molineux, which expires in the summer of 2026.

Playing for Wolves’ U21 team is a step backward for the 22-year-old, who would prefer to be playing regular senior games at this point in his career after two seasons of Championship football.

As the transfer market opens, it should come as no surprise that several EFL clubs are interested in Cundle because he has shown himself to be a more than good performer at the Championship level in recent seasons.
