Exclusive: Preston North End set to take Freddie Woodman action

Under Paul Heckingbottom, who took over the team at the beginning of the season following Ryan Lowe’s departure, the 27-year-old has continued to man the goal.

Due to his punishment in a 0-0 draw against Stoke City last month, Woodman has only missed one league game for Preston this season.

The seasoned goalie is one of many senior first-team players whose contracts are about to expire, but the Lilywhites are already acting to protect his future.

According to a source, Woodman’s current contract is set to expire at the end of the current campaign, and Preston is now in negotiations with him about a new one. Two summers ago, Woodman signed a three-year contract to join from Newcastle.

Preston is reportedly keen to keep the former England junior player, who has played a significant role in Deepdale’s operations, on board.

You would think there would be no shortage of bidders for Woodman’s signature in the summer, should his contract expire, considering his experience and relative youth for a goalkeeper.

Although Preston has other contracts to finalize before the summer, it would be advantageous if they could successfully negotiate new terms with Woodman.

In the summer of 2025, Woodman’s contract expires along with that of eleven other first-team players, including Robbie Brady, Jordan Storey, Emil Riis, and Ryan Ledson.

Some fans may contend that a total squad overhaul is necessary to move North End up the table in the upcoming years, but Preston cannot afford to lose the majority of their team, and Heckingbottom might be seeking to enter into additional contract negotiations soon.
