Dundee set to sign QPR left-back star

Tony Docherty is ready to add the France U/20 international to his squad ahead of the Premiership kick-off.

Ziyad Larkeche, the full-back for QPR, is getting ready to go north of the border, and Dundee is about to make their sixth summer acquisition.

According to the Scottish Sun, the 21-year-old left-back and the Dark Blues have agreed on a season-long loan. Larkeche, who went through Paris Saint-Germain’s academy system, is a former France young international who currently plays at the U/20 level.

After moving to Fulham in 2020, he spent September 2022 on loan to League One Barnsley, where he played in 18 games.

But didn’t play for Fulham before making the move to QPR in west London last summer.

Last season, Larkeche made 20 appearances in the Championship, helping the Rs place 18th under Gareth Ainsworth and Marti Cifuentes.

He can also play on the left side of central defense and in a more aggressive role as a left winger.

The Dee are expecting Owen Beck, a former France youth international, to have an identical impact to the stellar season he had when on loan at left wing-back.

Within the next 24 hours, the transfer is anticipated to be finalized, and Larkeche will be ready for Sunday’s Premiership kickoff against the Dundee derby.

If this rumored temporary trade goes through, it won’t be the young defender’s first loan move ever.

He was sent to Oakwell by his old club Fulham, where he played for Barnsley during the 2022–2023 season. His influence on the Tykes, who made it to the play-offs that season, was likewise minimal.

The Paris-born defender, who was positioned on the left side of a front three against Cardiff City on New Year’s Day in west London, did not start a league match for QPR the previous season. However, he may finally receive the playing time he requires at Dens Park.

But, he will have some very large shoes to fill in the north of the border. Finally

Given the positions the team has finished in the last three seasons, it makes sense that Marti Cifuentes is approving of some significant changes to this R’s squad.

Asmir Begovic, Jordan Archer, and Andre Dozzell were among the players they let go before the transfer market started, and more have left since then.

Chris Willock and Sinclair Armstrong, two important offensive players, have also left. Bristol City purchased the former, while Cardiff City signed the latter as a free agent.
