Darlington FC moved into the top half of the National League North table thanks to a superb winner by Will Hatfield against Hereford
Hereford nearly scored themselves when the Darlington defence didn’t deal with a high ball, and Declan McGlynn shot straight at Darlington keeper Peter Jameson.
After Elliot Forbes fired over from the edge of the box, Main just failed to get a touch on left wing cross from Scott Barrow.
Jameson came to his side’s rescue on 20 minutes when Jason Cowley broke through, but the keeper came out and saved at his feet.
Both sides then had free kicks in good positions and corners but couldn’t capitalise on them.
However, Hereford were furious just before half time when Kallum Griffiths seemed to trip McGlynn in the box after he turned on the edge of the area, but the referee instead awarded a free kick a yard outside, and was surrounded by several angry white-shirted Hereford players. Cowley’s free kick was blocked by the wall’
Quakers started the second half full of promise, and after Lambert had a shot deflected into the keeper’s hands from the edge of the box, they took the lead on 56 minutes.
Hatfield helped the ball on in the area for the alert Lambert to cleverly lob the ball over Tom Donaghy for a goal on his fourth home debut.
But just as they did at York on Saturday, Quakers conceded a quick equaliser when Yusifu Ceesay controlled the ball in the Darlington area, and set up McGlynn, who beat Jameson with a shot into the top corner.
Jameson pulled off a good close range stop to prevent Ceesay, and then he made a full length save to push away Jaiden White’s low effort after he had cut in from the right.
After Quakers made three subs for various reasons, they regained the lead with nine minutes left thanks to a superb goal from Hatfield.
The midfielder charged forward and was brought down about five yards outside the area.
He picked himself up, and then curled a delightful right footed effort over the wall for his fifth goal of the season.
Salkeld nearly made it 3-1 from a Hatfield pass, but he dragged his right foot effort wide from a tight angle.
