Crystal Palace striker signed new deal before making Premier League loan switch
The South London Press has learned that Odsonne Edouard extended his contract with Crystal Palace till the end of the 2026–2027 season before leaving on loan to join Leicester City on deadline day.
At the conclusion of the 2024–25 season, Edouard’s contract could have been extended by one season, but Palace choose to safeguard their valuable asset before letting him join Steve Cooper’s team for the duration of the campaign.
After leaving Celtic in 2021 to join the Eagles, Edouard scored 21 goals in 103 games, but Jean-Philippe Mateta became Oliver Glasner’s primary striker.
On deadline day, Palace also finalized the £30 million acquisition of Eddie Nketiah, which would have caused the French striker to drop in the hierarchy.
This weekend, Edouard’s new team, Leicester, will visit Selhurst Park as the Premier League resumes after the international break.
For the first time since leaving, former Palace attacker Jordan Ayew, who also transferred to the King Power this summer for £8 million, will return to South London.
Prior to let one of their players to depart on deadline day, Crystal Palace took an intriguing step. Odsonne Edouard was permitted to leave the team after three years, although on a loan, and spent the season playing for Leicester City.
After spending just under £15 million to sign with Edouard from Celtic, he has scored 18 goals in 95 league games. Though there have been moments of brilliance, the Frenchman has not always won me over, and he will now try to find his form again with the recently promoted Foxes.
