Crystal Palace eye up Chelsea’s defender in £25m deal to replace Marc Guehi
Defender has been left in limbo since being left off Chelsea’s US tour and has been training with club’s development squad
As they consider their alternatives in light of Marc Guehi’s possible exit, Crystal Palace is considering the defensive duo of Maxence Lacroix of Wolfsburg and Trevoh Chalobah of Chelsea.
Newcastle United is interested in Guehi, therefore Palace has to start thinking about how they would replace him.
Chalobah, who was not included in Chelsea’s preseason trip to the United States, and Lacroix, who was assistant coach to Oliver Glasner in the past, are two options that are being seriously considered.
Lacroix’s contract expires in just one year, and Chalobah has declared himself open for sale. Chalobah is said to be worth approximately £25 million to Chelsea.
After being excluded from Chelsea’s US trip, Chalobah has been working with the club’s development and Under-21 squads, leaving him in a state of uncertainty. Although a lot of teams are rumored to like the 25-year-old, he hasn’t received any official offers yet.
Now that Chelsea has returned to the UK following their tour of the US, it is anticipated that Chalobah will continue to practice with the club’s youth group apart from head coach Enzo Maresca’s first-team side.
Palace, Fulham, Aston Villa, and possibly Tottenham Hotspur are just a few of the Premier League teams anticipated to shop around for a defender before the transfer window closes.
Chalobah, who was given a Chelsea contract less than two years ago, still has four years left on it after turning down a transfer to Nottingham Forest last year.
Romelu Lukaku, a striker for Chelsea, is also without a contract as Napoli has not yet made an offer for the Belgian.
Although Lukaku is thought to have given his consent in principle to join Napoli, where he would reunite with Antonio Conte, the Italian team has not yet reached an agreement with Chelsea.
Chelsea has notified Napoli that they are not currently interested in a loan and that they want to see the entire £37.8 million clause in Lukaku’s contract fulfilled. However, Napoli has not yet made an offer to express their interest and might be waiting.
Although Lukaku rejected a summer move to Saudi Arabia, the Saudi Pro League has not shown any interest in signing him this season.
Victor Osimhen is another player Chelsea would be willing to take on a season-long loan from Napoli in the poker game between the two teams for Lukaku.
Even if Chelsea is anticipated to pay £35 million to Atletico Madrid for striker Samu Omorodion, the team would also accept Osimhen on loan if an agreement could be reached.
Alfie Gilchrist, a defender for Chelsea, has, in the meantime, signed a season-long loan with Sheffield United, who were demoted to the Championship last year.
