Championship rivals ‘battling’ to sign former Bradford City, Sheffield United and Barnsley forward
After leaving Sheffield United for Spain in the summer, the 28-year-old is currently playing in La Liga.
This season, he has made 16 appearances across all competitions, recording three assists and two goals.
According to The Sun, Burnley and Blackburn have expressed interest in hiring him, so it looks like he might have the chance to return to England shortly.
Both clubs are targeting promotion to the Premier League and are believed to be keen on setting up a loan deal.
McBurnie has a wealth of Championship-level forward experience and was previously promoted from Sheffield United out of the division.
Although he is more frequently linked to Swansea City and the Blades, McBurnie also has affiliations with Bradford and Barnsley.
He started his career with the Bantams, joining their academy from Leeds United and going on to make 20 first-team appearances.
The Scotland-capped marksman represented Barnsley in 2018, scoring nine goals in 17 outings after making a loan switch from Swansea.
He would arguably be a coup for most Championship club, with his time at Sheffield United an example of his usefulness in a promotion charge.
“Obviously, I was a free contract in the summer,” McBurnie remarked earlier this year while discussing his choice to sign with Las Palmas. I was always in touch with Sheffield United, so it’s one of them.
I had been there for five years and loved the town and everything about it, but I was in need of a change of pace. A part of me always wanted to resign there, but I reasoned that it would be somewhat safe.
Blackburn, who came as something of a surprise, are in fifth place in the Championship, while Burnley are in third.
