Celtic’s stance on Kieran Tierney becomes clearer as Brendan Rodgers explores two options
An emotional reunion between the Scotland international and Brendan Rodgers may result from Celtic’s reported stunning deal for Kieran Tierney.
The Bhoys are on high alert since Kieran Tierney will be a free agent next summer after Arsenal waived his year-extension clause, according to a recent report.
Crucially, the Celtic icon would be willing to cut his £120,000 wage packet to complete a return to Parkhead as rumours behind to intensity that his return home could be on the cards.
Tierney made his first Arsenal appearance in 19 months in a 3-2 victory over Crystal Palace in the EFL Cup quarter-final, faring well in a slightly advanced role on the left-hand side.
However, his successful on-field exploits have been overshadowed by suggestions that he could move north of the border. Now, the two options Brendan Rodgers is exploring to complete a deal have come to light.
According to Sky Sports, Celtic are ‘exploring’ a pre-contract and loan offer as two permutations they may investigate to try and push a deal over the line for Tierney next month.
Arsenal are open to offers in January due to his contract situation. There are no further reports from the outlet on potential other suitors.
Greg Taylor is out of contract at Celtic come the end of the season, provoking a scenario where wheels could turn in the left-back department.
Tierney had previously been on the sidelines for six months with a hamstring injury after his involvement with Scotland against Switzerland at Euro 2024.
When asked directly about the topic live on talkSPORT in April of this year, Tierney refused to rule out a return to Celtic.
As he put it: “Who knows? You never know in football; it’s a relationship I’ll always have, and I imagine I’ll always be associated with it even if I leave any club.
There is no secret that a dramatic homecoming is something that he would be interested in. Hopefully, supporters can see one of the club’s iconic figures return to his old stomping ground.
