At Yarm Station, paramedics and police were called.
Yarm Station incident has tragically resulted in the death of a woman.
Around 6:45 p.m. on Sunday, there were reports of a trespasser on the line, so police were called to the train station; however, no one was found. Following reports of a casualty on the tracks, police and paramedics were summoned back to the scene shortly after 8 p.m. Sadly, a person was confirmed dead at the scene.
According to British Transport Police (BTP), the incident is not being investigated as suspicious, and a coroner’s case will be created. The force announced that it will be referring the matter to the Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC) for additional inquiry. At this point, inquiries are still underway to determine whether the two instances were connected.
According to National Rail, the incident caused delays for TransPennine Express trains between Manchester Victoria and Saltburn as well as Grand Central trains between London Kings Cross and Sunderland. Yarm was the point where all lines were closed and trains were either “cancelled, delayed by up to 60 minutes, or diverted via Darlington.”
Passengers traveling to and from Yarm were asked to use road substitute transportation. Around 12:07 a.m., National Rail verified that the problem had cleared.
Pictures from the location on Sunday night show a police car and a dog unit sitting in the station parking lot, which is off Green Lane. Witnesses reported seeing multiple emergency service cars traveling from Thirsk Road towards Green Lane shortly after 8 o’clock at night. The North East Ambulance Service (NEAS) confirmed that it dispatched two ambulance crews along with a duty officer.
