Boss in a week sacked as Blades Championship rivals make big call

After six games of the Championship season, Cardiff City fired their manager due to their dismal start.
One of Sheffield United’s Championship rivals has fired its manager, making it the second team in as many weeks.

Cardiff City, who are now at the bottom of the table and have not won a game this season, let go of Erol Bulut a few days after Stoke City let go of Steven Schumacher.

Their latest defeat came on Saturday where Leeds United won 2-0 at the Cardiff City Stadium, with that proving to be the final straw for the Cardiff hierarchy.

A short and pointed statement, confirmed the news that Bulut “has been relieved of his duties and will leave the club with immediate effect”.

They added: “The board of directors wish to thank Erol for all of his hard work and wish him well for the future.”

Bulut was appointed by the Bluebirds in June 2023 and led them to a 12th-placed finish last season, earning him a two-year contract extension in the summer.

Cardiff has also stated that first-team coach Nikolaos Karydas is leaving the team. Omer Riza will take over as interim manager.

The Bluebirds’ next opponent is Hull City, as United won’t meet the Welsh team until close to the end of December in Cardiff.

There have been three management changes in the Championship thus far this season. Earlier this week, Norwich City coach Narcís Pelach replaced Schumacher after Ryan Lowe departed Preston after just one game. Ryan Lowe was replaced by former Blades manager Paul Heckingbottom.
