Athletic club star makes key decision on future
Athletic Club star Nico Williams has reportedly made a decision regarding his future amid Barcelona’s interest in his services.
While the Basque club wants to keep the winger at San Mames for at least another season, Williams has been Barcelona’s top transfer target this summer as they attempt to improve the squad for Hansi Flick. However, the future of the Spain international is uncertain. But neither Barcelona nor Athletic Club are certain of the decision that the player, who was born in Pamplona, will make.
Williams has opted not to sign with Paris Saint-Germain, who had hoped to fight Barcelona for his signature, but he has not made a definitive decision on his future, according to the Catalan publication SPORT. He will be at either Athletic or Barcelona the next season since he wants to continue his career in La Liga. Before Williams starts his preseason training under Ernesto Valverde, he wants everything to be clear for both parties regarding his future.
When asked about Williams’ future earlier this week, Valverde responded, “We already know that Nico is good, we’ll see what happens because every day something new comes out in the press and what we can’t do is let ourselves be guided by that, but simply by the things that are happening.” Valverde was speaking to the media.
Later this month, La Liga will begin with Athletic Club playing Getafe on August 15. The Basque team is hoping that Williams will have made up his mind by then.
