Another Crystal Palace player now has a new number after Joachim Andersen.
Oliver Glasner is in charge of his first preseason at Selhurst Park, and it has been a summer of change at Crystal Palace.
James Tomkins’s departure has left Joachim Andersen wearing jersey number five, while Michael Olise’s transfer to Bayern Munich has left Ismaila Sarr wearing shirt number seven.
In a significant move, another Crystal Palace player has now received a new uniform number.
It has now been reported by the Daily Mail that Dean Henderson has been handed the starting shirt at Crystal Palace.
The England international, who was ranked No. 30 at Crystal Palace, received word last week that Glasner’s starting number one for the 2024–2025 season will be him.
Sam Johnstone has reportedly requested to leave Crystal Palace as a result, according to The Athletic.
The 31-year-old’s wish to leave Crystal Palace is rumored to have been granted, with the club acknowledging that he has been a model professional since joining on a free transfer back in July 2022. Selhurst Park staff is presently assisting the England international in his search for a new team.
Johnstone is reportedly desired by Southampton, Wolves, Nottingham Forest, Leicester, and Crystal Palace, who are hoping to pay £10 million for him.
The Daily Mail’s headline, “Johnstone is STRIPPED of the No. 1 shirt” at Crystal Palace, gives the impression that the situation is much messier than it actually is.
We believe that Henderson is merely requesting the shirt, rather than donning the outmoded No. 30 in south London, and not that Johnstone is having his number taken away from him, as the Daily Mail portrays it.
Nonetheless, the shift in the number does imply that an exit might happen soon.
According to an Alan Nixon report, Crystal Palace is interested in signing Michael Cooper, the top player for Plymouth Argyle, provided that another team is willing to match Johnstone’s £10 million asking price.

Given that Henderson is wearing the No. 1 shirt, Glasner may be losing his backup goalie this summer. Be sure to keep a watch on the issue.
