Angry Sheffield Wednesday boss demands Blackburn Rovers reaction after shock claim
The Owls drew 1-1 at home to Rovers’ Lancashire rivals with John Eustace’s side making the journey to Hillsborough on Tuesday night.
But despite a late comeback to earn a draw, Rohl was frustrated and angry with his team’s performance.
“For me Preston was the better team, they deserved to win and we were very lucky. It’s not what I want to see from my team and I think you’ve asked me before what the difference is between home and away – I think it’s a bit our mindset. We want to play nice football and then do the hard work at home, and that’s something we have to understand.
“In this division, you have to do the basics right, be aggressive, be nasty and organised, and have a good net. Then you can grow into the game and then you can play nice football.
The first 10 minutes showed a lot today. I take it as a defeat, I’ve said this to my team. We didn’t win a point, we lost two points, and we now have to show a reaction on Tuesday.”
Wednesday sit ninth in the standings ahead of kick-off, three places and five points behind Rovers. Both teams needed wins on the final day of last season to stay in the Championship but Rohl is not content with treading water.
“Maybe I am today a little bit more critical than a lot of people,” he added. “They say ‘Oh yeah the fightback, another point’, but for our and my ambitions, it was not right, the performance today.
“I was very direct today with my team. You can look now and say we took points from our four games, it’s not bad. But the performance especially today was not what I want to see from my team.
“Our strength last year was our home performance. You change the two away wins to two home wins and you take the draw away and you think ‘Oh yes it is fine’.
“But I am ambitious, my team is ambitious and we have to stop talking about the table. We have to speak about the performance, our identity, our journey and what we have to work hard on.”
