A Reading FC star leaves with the club's best interests in mind.
Reading star Femi Azeez has left supporters an emotional message after confirming his exit to Millwall.
The 23-year-old made almost 100 appearances for the team last season and had a fantastic campaign, recording almost double digits in goals and assists.
After joining the club as a teenager from the non-league pyramid, Azeez signed a long-term contract with the Lions and secured an estimated £1 million fee for the Royals. Azeez leaves with the best wishes of everyone at the club.
“The last five years have been special; I joined as an 18-year-old with ambitions to play professionally and I’ve been incredibly fortunate enough to have done so,” the winger wrote in a letter to supporters on social media.
“Without the incredible assistance of my teammates, the entire crew working behind the scenes, and the audience I had the honor and gratitude to perform for, I could not have succeeded.
“I wish nothing but the best to everyone and thank you for the special memories.”
Until the lengthy takeover by American Rob Couhig is finalized, Reading is unable to work in the transfer market, leaving the team without many choices to replace the well-liked forward.
The window closes on August 30, so this would need to be resolved quickly. Until the drawn-out takeover is finished, the Royals are unable to add any players.
Femi Azeez, a winger, left Ruben Selles’s thinly stocked team earlier this window when he moved to Millwall on Tuesday for an alleged £1 million.
Only one loan acquisition was made by Reading in January, and that was Arsenal defender Zane Monlouis, who appeared for two minutes in a 1-1 draw at Fleetwood Town in February.
