Jimmy Thelin slams Aberdeen lack of ‘effort’ as Kilmarnock battering branded ‘not acceptable’

The Ayrshire hosts defeated the Pittodrie team 4-0, but if Killie had been more clinical in front of goal, it might have been more.

Perhaps one of Kilmarnock’s most comfortable victories of the season, Aberdeen finished second in every category as they easily defeated them.

Thelin has come out swinging and stated that he does not want to see the demolition of Rugby Park happen again this season.

“Our performance is not acceptable,” Thelin stated, as reported in The Press & Journal. We didn’t compete with Kilmarnock well enough. We didn’t put out enough effort for one another.

Kilmarnock is really good at what they do, but we need to compete much harder. I hope this was the season’s worst performance.

“You can win, lose or draw games – but not the way we did today with the effort we made for each other. It’s not good enough.

“You can get in a really bad run and we haven’t won for some games now. But at least you compete.

“Today Kilmarnock won every duel, they won every second ball and then it’s not easy to win games when you do that.”

The Swede continued: “I’m a part of this, I’m the coach. We have to look ourselves in the mirror and do much, much better in the next game.

“We have to do our basic things much better than we did against Kilmarnock. Again, this is the second game in a row now when we look at how we cover each other.

“When we lose the first duel, who picks up the second? All these kind of things. We just need to stop and we have to go out and everybody has to do it. That’s the only way.”
