Police have confirmed a property in Bolton is connected with the murder investigation of a 55-year-old woman.

Following the discovery of a body during the hunt for Mariann, a Hungarian, Greater Manchester Police (GMP) opened a murder investigation on Monday.

On the morning of Saturday, December 14, she was last spotted on Chorley Old Road.

Mariann was located after police conducted a thorough search and issued several requests to track her down.

Although her family has been notified and is receiving support, officers report that no official identification has occurred.

According to GMP, a 61-year-old male has been taken into custody as part of the inquiry on suspicion of murder.

A force spokeswoman confirmed that the house is related to the inquiry after a police car was stationed outside a residence on Pedder Street, just off Chorley Old Road, yesterday morning, Tuesday.

The investigation continues as police urge people with any information to come forward.

“This is a tragic development to our extensive search for Mariann, which we desperately hoped would not be the case so close to Christmas,” said Chief Superintendent Helen Critchley of GMP’s Bolton area. Her family is in our prayers during this difficult time.

If you know anything, call the police at 101 or Crimestoppers, an independent charity, at 0800 555 111 to speak anonymously.

“As our investigations progress, we are currently making every effort to determine the complete circumstances in order to provide answers and pursue justice for this woman.

“We would like to thank members of the local Bolton community who have spoken to our officers and tried to help us with our search since last week, which included sharing our appeals.”
