Leicester City chances of signing £20m ace in January now revealed as manager makes interesting claim

Even though it is still early in the season, the match already appears to be a six-pointer for Leicester City when the Foxes return to Premier League play on Sunday against Wolverhampton Wanderers.

This weekend, the Midlands team might drop into the relegation zone, and with January quickly approaching, it’s still obvious that some new players will need to be added.

Numerous names have previously been connected to a move to the King Power Stadium, including one that put Leicester and Manchester City in a trade fight.

The Foxes are interested in one of the Sky Blues’ present assets, but the two Premier League teams are fighting for the signing of a star.

Leicester sought to sign James McAtee in 2023 and had him at their training field shortly before the transfer window closed.

A deal did not come to pass, though, with the midfielder instead joining Sheffield United on loan.

However, McAtee has been linked to Leicester again this season. According to a source in late November, the Foxes were keeping an eye on the England U21 international, who the Manchester team reportedly wanted £20 million for.

When asked about the midfielder’s future, City manager Pep Guardiola made his position known ahead of this weekend’s match.

Although McAtee won’t be leaving during the January transfer window, the Spaniard did keep the possibility of a summer transfer open.

“Go?,” he said. No, I don’t believe so. The team will be refreshed at the end of the season. It is dependent upon our collective performance. We shall see the situation after the end of the season; right now, it is not a reality.

The club and I will then decide what’s best for the team after what happens in the winter or at the end of the season. “What I want is my players back, and I have the same feeling that the squad is really good.”

“The problems we have are not about good or bad players, it’s because we lost two important figures for a while, it is what it is.”

There are still several names that may be linked to Van Nistelrooy and company, even though a move for McAtee appears to be dead in the water.

In their quest to acquire some better defenders, Leicester has been linked to Real Valladolid’s Juma Bah.

Although Bah is a rookie center back, the Foxes are also interested in another defender with Premier League experience.

Ben Godfrey, a target for Leicester who Foxes supporters will recognize from his time at Everton, is open to offers from Atalanta BC.

The team is reportedly looking at more than just defenders this winter; a possible Abdul Fatawu replacement is also mentioned.

For the rest of 2024–2025, Leicester hopes to sign Miguel Almiron on loan from Newcastle United.
