Andy Woodman urges Crystal Palace’s Danny Imray to remain at Bromley
Imray has already won Player of the Season for Bromley, and in the upcoming year, Crystal Palace may provide the wing-back a loan to a higher league as a reward.
With two goals and four assists across all competitions this season, the 21-year-old has established himself as a key attacking member of Woodman’s team.
Imray finished with the most dribbles, three shots, and two chances versus Port Vale on Saturday.
Situated on the right of defence, the English-born loanee is constantly a threat for the South London side, crafting 1.44 openings per 90.
Speaking to the News Shopper after Saturday’s goalless draw with Port Vale, Bromley boss Woodman commended Imray, but noted the former Welling defender needs to have more faith in his goal-scoring ability.
Danny did great. We fed him really well in the first half. In the second half, they shut up shop on him a bit – which you expect them to do.
“He just needed that final bit. Maybe he needs to believe in himself a bit more in those scenarios rather than be the provider, he can go and be the goal scorer.
Addressing Imray’s Bromley future, Woodman urged the wing-back to remain at Hayes Lane while acknowledging that it is out of the club’s hands.
“He’s Palace’s player, so I can’t have much say on it. What I would say to Danny and every young player is you have got to be better off playing football. Playing at a place that is local to you.
Danny will have a great career wherever he goes next. I don’t think it will make a difference if he goes somewhere else.
“I would like him to stay here. I think Palace would like him to stay here, but there is always a thing called an agent that has a different idea.
“If I were Danny – and I’ve been in his position as a father to a player in the same situation – I would stay and keep playing.
“Keep playing where people love you and what will be will be. You get to your level eventually. If he keeps creating noise around himself, he will have a great career.”
Echoing his manager’s sentiment, Imray told the News Shopper that he is focused on developing his end product.
“I’m very happy with how I’ve adjusted to the football league,” Imray said. “But I’ve still got lots to improve on.
“I need to keep working hard, stay humble and the rewards will come.
“My final bit in the box – that clinical instinct – will be the difference between getting to the top level or not. I should have scored [against Port Vale], if I keep getting into those positions, then it’s only a matter of time.
“I’m going to keep working hard at the training ground. Hopefully, the goals will come.”
Bromley have three games before the January transfer window opens. Losing Imray, who is crucial to their build-up play, would be a blow, but his future is one to watch.
