Wellington Phoenix and Hurricanes evacuated after bomb threat
The Trentham-based New Zealand Campus of Innovation and Sport, which houses and trains elite athletes, announced that it was collaborating with local law enforcement.
“In the interest of the safety of all on campus, while the risk is low – everyone onsite has been evacuated and we expect an all clear for business as usual early this afternoon,” added the statement.
Although “these sorts of threats are taken seriously,” police stated that they did not think there was an urgent safety danger.
“Enquiries remain ongoing into the source of the message,” police stated.
The Hurricanes rugby team and Wellington Phoenix football team were training at the time, according to Jamie Tout, general manager of NZCIS.
Both teams made alternative arrangements to continue training elsewhere, he said.
“Our teams adapted well and worked together to come up with Plan B.
