Sky Blues star Klimala ruled out of Reds ALM clash

Sydney FC will be without their goal shooter Patryk Klimala, which is a major setback ahead of their A-League Men’s matchup with an unbeaten Adelaide United team.

Following a dismal 4-3 home loss to Western United, the Sky Blues will keen to get back to winning ways when they play the Reds at Coopers Stadium on Friday.

Klimala will stay in Sydney after his wife Milena gave birth to their second child earlier this week. Klimala was already sidelined by a groin issue during their loss to Western United.

The outstanding Polish recruit, who joined during the off-season, leads the team with four goals in seven games, more than Adrian Segecic and Joe Lolley combined.

With Joel King and Patrick Wood having an opportunity to join the team, coach Ufuk Talay is certain Klimala will only be out for a week.

“Obviously, they haven’t had a lot of minutes, but I still believe they’re capable of producing a certain product,” Talay stated on Thursday.

We’ve got those players that they can come and step in for Patryk.”

Sydney will at least welcome back defensive midfielder Leo Sena as they attempt to hand Carl Veart’s men their first defeat of the campaign.

Sena suffered a heavy knock to the knee in their round seven defeat to Central Coast.

Adelaide are second on the table with 17 points, while Sydney are seventh with nine.

Putting his players on notice after their Western United defeat, Talay is confident his side will go full-throttle on Friday.

Sydney lost to United last time out after giving up three goals and giving up a 2-1 lead after halftime.

“We had a look at the workload that was produced in the first half compared to the second half (against Western United),” Talay stated.

“It’s simple to point the finger at our defenders for these errors, but they’re not usually to blame.

“I continue to believe that some players haven’t developed to a level where they can perform.

“We’ve got a good group of men that are honest with themselves and honest with each other, that there’s certain things that we definitely improve on.”

Talay hopes the young player can return for their round ten matchup against Melbourne Victory, but Corey Hollman (ankle) is still out.
