Former Scunthorpe United & Coventry City Man Targeted by Championship Club

After Millwall’s trip to Middlesbrough on Saturday, it was unexpectedly announced that Neil Harris would be leaving his position as manager. The next issue was, who would take Harris’ place?

From the ranks of the managers who have already been fired, there appears to be an early candidate. Would Millwall’s season be different as a result of this move?

The club was in a state of turmoil following the announcements made by Millwall and Neil Harris that Harris was resigning.

Millwall’s season wasn’t exactly a bust. With convincing victories over teams like Leeds United and Burnley, Millwall is now ranked thirteenth in the Championship. With just one loss in their previous ten games, Millwall is just six points outside of the playoff spots.

Harris resigned, though, after referring to Millwall supporters as “thickos” after Millwall’s defeat to Coventry City over the weekend.

Who will take Harris’ place now that he’s leaving after this weekend? According to recent reports, Millwall believes Mark Robins is the best candidate for the position.

These sources state that after Neil Harris leaves Millwall on Saturday, Millwall is anticipated to speak with the recently fired Coventry City manager.

Robins would undoubtedly contribute a wealth of experience to The Den. Not two years ago, Robins led Coventry City to the Championship and came within a penalty shootout of gaining promotion to the Premier League. Robins’ Coventry City team lost to Manchester United on penalties in the FA Cup semifinals just a year ago.

Before the season began, there was a lot of hope for Robins and Coventry City, but after a poor start, Robins was fired last month.

Bringing on Mark Robins, a manager of exceptional caliber, shows what kind of goals Millwall must have. It wouldn’t be strange if Millwall believed Mark Robins could lead the team to greater heights given how the season has begun.

A team like Millwall, which seems very much within touching distance of the playoffs, can reach heights not seen at the club in a long time because to Robins’ proven track record. If those hopes come true, it would be quite the redemption story for Millwall as well as for Mark Robins.
