Falkirk have appealed Dundee loanee Luke Graham’s red card in their weekend defeat at Ayr United
Midway within his own half, a long pass dropped over the defender’s head, and Graham’s mistake gave Honest Men forward George Oakley a clear chance to score.
The young Dee was given a straight red card after just nine minutes, despite the team leading 1-0 in the first half.
After losing 5-2, the 10-man Bairns’ lead at the top of the Championship was reduced to five points.
Falkirk, however, contests the ruling.
“Falkirk FC has informed the Scottish FA of our intention to appeal Luke Graham’s red card at Ayr on Saturday,” the team stated in a social media post on Monday.
We will submit evidence to the SFA judicial review panel and fans will be informed as soon as there is an outcome later in the week.”
Following the game, Falkirk manager John McGlynn disclosed that Graham believed Oakley had handled the ball as well.
The assistant referee’s decision prior to referee David Dickinson is not evident from the video footage.
We’ll never know how things would have turned out if we could have kept 11 players on the field, McGlynn told Falkirk TV.
Luke allows the ball to enter behind him, hence I believe he should attack it.
“Always, Oakland will be there, breathing down his neck.
I have no idea what happened. I’m hearing conflicting accounts.
“I don’t know, Luke says they both handled it.”
Graham will miss the match against Hamilton on Saturday if the appeal is denied.
