Everything indicated it was the moment to go’: Selles opens up on Reading FC exit

Former Reading FC manager Ruben Selles has explained why he felt it was the right time to leave the club as he departed to join Championship Hull City.

The Royals boss helped the club to survive amid their financial crisis and led them to survival in his first season, while he had the team in the top six of League One before he left.

He now has the task of trying to keep Hull in the Championship with the Tigers currently bottom of the league.

“We can be here for three hours if you want a reflection of my time there (Reading),” said Selles.

“We gave absolutely everything for the club.

“We took a club with a very difficult financial situation, with points deductions anda transfer emargo and managed to go through the first few months of that challenge and create a young team that can perform

The techinca staff and I managed to forget about things off the pitch and focus on football.

“This season has been exactly the same, but the team with that memory has been performing really well.

“It was a moment where everything around the club, for me, indicated it was a moment to go. The only real point was the emotional attachment to my players, my technical staff and the fans of Reading. I gave everything and the club is in a very good position compared to what it was, and I felt ready to go.”

Noel Hunt is now in charge of the Royals and takes to the dugout for his first home league match when the Royals welcome Blackpool to the Select Car Leasing Stadium on Saturday.
